MAIKO
Acerca de
At the age of six, I embarked upon a journey that would shape the course of my life.
Residing in Osaka, Japan, my mother took me to my first ballet performance of Romeo and Juliet by the Royal Ballet. In that moment, I knew with certainty that it was a career in ballet that I desired.

I subsequently enrolled in Sachiyo Hashimoto's ballet school and was subsequently discovered by Swiss talent scout Hans Meister when I was 11. He advised that in order to achieve international success, I would have to commit fully to my craft. Thus, at the age of 13, I ventured alone to Switzerland to train at his ballet school. Two years later, I was accepted into one of the world's most renowned, yet also costly, ballet programs, The Royal Ballet School in London. To make this a reality, my parents were forced to sell their home and move in with my grandparents.

At the age of 19, I graduated and auditioned throughout Europe before securing a position with the National Ballet of Norway. At 25, I was promoted to soloist after performing the lead role of Odette/Odille in Swan Lake, a performance for which I received the Critics' Award.

Throughout my tenure with the National Ballet, I have had the privilege of performing most of the leading roles, both modern and classical. In 2015, a documentary film titled "Maiko: Dancing Child" was produced, which was aired on both NRK and international channels ass well as screened in cinemas throughout Japan.
